Long before Hollywood, Terry Crews was an artist. Growing up in Flint, Michigan, his talent earned him an art scholarship at Western Michigan University before he later received a football scholarship.
After being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 11th round of the 1991 NFL Draft, Crews spent seven years moving between six teams. When football work dried up, he returned to painting, creating portraits for teammates that could take about two months and earn around $5,000. He has said the income helped support his family.
His art career had started even earlier. While working at Flint's WJRT, he once filled in as a courtroom sketch artist when the regular artist was unavailable.
Before he became a star, art was what helped keep his family going.
